The above two images are newspaper clippings from 1969, when James E. Groppi, a catholic priest and activist spoke at Knox College. This led to a violent outcome as the people who disapproved of his arguments began to fight to remove students from the audience. Groppi justified all acts of violence committed by black people to win back their rights. Groppi had views that could be easily be considered radical and anti white, which is ironic since he himself is white. I wonder if the Black community had mixed opinions about him. While he certainly supported their cause, not all Black people might have agreed with his pro-violence approach. Because at the end of the day, regardless of what he says it is not really his reputation at stake but rather the reputation of the community he has chosen to speak for.
Great find, Lyebah!
